This year, National Fishing Month will begin on the 19th July, and conclude on the 26th August.

National Fishing Month 2013

As in previous years, the idea is to encourage every family member to have a go at fishing from whatever cultural or social background they may be from. Fishery owners, organisers and angling coaches give up their valuable time to support this initiative so please take this opportunity to have a go at this wonderful sport.

National Fishing Month 2012 – a resounding success despite distractions

The terrible British weather and the 2012 Olympics didn’t dampen the spirit of the coaches and National Fishing Month organisers this year.

Evesham Festival

Despite the distractions, nearly 300 events took place across the country, attracting close to 14,000 participants across a huge range of ages, ethnic backgrounds and social profiles.
This year’s events, which took place between 20th July and 27th August, had a shaky start when the CLA Game Fair at Belvoir Castle was cancelled because of unsafe ground conditions.

However, many events continued despite the weather culminating with three days of coaching at the Evesham Festival, where attendees enjoyed sessions with coaches from the Professional Anglers Association.  Harvey Jacks, PAA Director said: “The weather wasn’t kind to us across the three days. However, we managed to still coach nearly 150 people, which was a great result.”

For anyone interested in organising or attending an event for National Fishing Month 2013, next year’s initiative will run between 19th July and the 26th August.

National Fishing Month…

...a great start despite the weather

Richard Benyon at one of the many NFM events.

Despite the poor weather conditions and the cancellation of the CLA Game Fair at Belvoir Castle, National Fishing Month 2012 began in style with a celebrity launch. Fisheries Minister, Richard Benyon, was on hand to open activities at a special event organised by Reading and District Angling Association.
Richard Benyon said: “National Fishing Month is a fantastic opportunity to introduce thousands of new people to the benefits of angling. It was great to see youngsters getting into the sport at Friday’s launch and I hope the next four weeks are a great success.”
